It is commercially grown for its essential oil and ornamental purposes, has a copious grey green stem that darken and gets harden with age. Flowers are small and grouped together in dense clusters and are rose-violet colored with darker stripes. The plant has a wide range of medicinal uses.
Soil&climate:
It can be cultivated under various climatic conditions but it
thrives best in well drained soils rich in organic matter. The
crop flourishes in mild climate with low humidity; it is found
growing successfully from an altitude of 1000-2100 meter.
Land preparation:
Thoroughly plough the field to fine tilth stage to get
better pulverization of the soil. Land should have gentle
slope and proper shelter to survive from heavy winds.
Propagation and planting: It can be easily propagated
through stem/ plant cuttings in spring and autumn. In 1 acre
field 15,000 stems are planted at the spacing of 18 x 24
inches.
